Vilks first started building Nimis in the 1980s - the only land art installation of its kind in Sweden - using drive wood from the sea. When authorities discovered the sculptures in 1982, a long-winded judicial process was launched to get it taken down.

Nimis är ett unikt konstverk i Kullabergs naturreservat, som skapats av Lars Vilks på 80-talet. Idag är Nimis en välkänd sevärdhet i Skåne med tusentals besökare varje år. Hit kommer både barn och vuxna för att klättra i träslottet, som mestadels består av gamla plankor och drivved. Den högsta delen av Nimis har en höjd på cirka 12 meter.

1980: July 31: Lars Vilks starts building a sculpture at the nature reserve Kullaberg, in the northwest corner of county Skåne. A few days later the sculpture is named "Nimis". 1982: Nimis is "discovered" and the authorities become aware of it. This begins a series of unforeseen developments and is the start of a number of civil and criminal complaints that drag on through the courts.
